The transfer of de.uncyclopedia went completely wrong:

• all user passwords seem to be invalid, people without an email address won't be able to use their accounts any more
• all sysops lost their sysop-rights
• transformation from iso to utf8 went terribly wrong
  • broken entities (ä,ü etc.)
  • articles lost (the ones with entities in the article name)

Problems

Hello. Sorry to write in English, if someone could translate that would be a help. I've just found out there are problems with the data transfer. I'm sorry, I should have visited before now. I have sent a message to Jason to ask for technical help, and will do all I can to get things working smoothly here again. I'm very sorry for any problems. It's a holiday tomorrow in the UK and US, so I'm not sure if Jason will be in (I will be in for part of the day) but if he isn't, I will talk to him on Tuesday. Ich habe Jason eine Nachricht geschickt, in der ich nach technischer Hilfe frage, und werde alles tun, was ich kann, damit die Dinge hier möglichst schnell wieder funktionieren. Morgen ist in den USA und Großbritannien ein Feiertag, deshalb weiß ich nicht, ob Jason erreichbar sein wird (ich jedenfalls werde da sein), aber wenn er es nicht ist, spreche ich am Dienstag mit ihm. To further the comments by Sannse, Jason and I (John Q) will be working on this today (Monday 29/05, US time). We take this very seriously because we know how much work has been put into this community and we are trying to get this resolved in both the quickest and safest way possible. Ok, Jason and I have been working on this for a while now... the issue is a mix of iso-8859-1 chars and UTF8 chars (which we knew) and we've been working out a system to figure out how to convert the text back to normal in a safe way. We're almost there but we're both a bit too tired to continue so we'll pick this up again tomorrow (Tues US time). We now have a script to fix the character translation problem. We've tested this on a copy of your database and looked at specific pages that exhibited the behavior. We also looked at 20-30 random pages and everything looked ok. Jason will be backing up your current data for safekeeping and then run our script to fix the character issue in about an hour (by approximately 18:30 30/05/2006 US Pacific time). After running our script, all characters in your links, article headings, and articles should be back to normal. Please review as soon as possible to let us know if you see any issues. We have a safe copy of your data that can be immediately restored if there are any issues.

I ran into a problem while trying to fix the encoding problem, and I've decided to wait until I figure out the problem before I proceed. Sorry for the additional delay, but I want to make sure that we do it right this time around. -- Jasonr 02:40, 31. Mai 2006 (UTC)

Hi again. Ok, we've updated the article and page tables with the corrected text. You should see most of the text display normally now. We did find some additional issues which appear to have happened as a result of unrecognized characters being added to certain pages as a result of user editing. This was the issue that delayed us as we were trying to figure out if our fix caused this or not. At this point we believe that the answer is "not" and that these all are happening on pages edited since the wiki was imported to our database. So our decision was to get you the corrected text as soon as we were sure (right now) and then work with you to identify the pages on which we see this other issue. Basically, what we're still seeing is that users edited some pages after the database was imported and used some characters that weren't recognized as UTF-8. Those characters were saved as the bytes "EF BF BD". When browsers display these characters you see an upside-down question mark followed by another nonsense character. What we will do in the coming day or two will be to walk through the database and search for the particular byte combination "EF BF BD" and provide you a list of pages on which we find these so that you know exactly where they are. At this point, we have no way of determining what the original character was the user tried to enter that was saved by the database as bytes EF BF BD and so the most likely fix will be just to manually edit the pages on which these occur. We will work through this with you but since neither I nor Jason speak German our help in editing may be a bit limited. I believe Jason had some questions about the image table... so we'll send those again and work on that next. Thanks again for your patience. We're trying to make sure we do this right the first time. We have made some changes to the code now, and we beleive that your old passwords will be working correctly now. However, there are some user IDs that were changed during the import. These names were changed because there already existed users with those names in the Wikia database. THe user IDs that were changed during the import are:

missing images / fehlende Bilder

I contacted Jochen, too. The images were (back in may) ready for wikia to download. Now, all (uncyclopedia) data on Jochen's server is already deleted.

Vielleicht kann der Badehaubendealer daraus verständliches English machen? Ich bin diesbezüglich ein Pfosten. Jochen sagt, er hatte die Daten alle für Wikia zum Download bereitgestellt, und wenn die die Bilder nicht runtergeladen haben, dann sind'se wech, weil er bereits alles gelöscht hat. Hallo Nachteule, tausend Dank für deine Bemühungen um das Wiederbeleben der Uncyclopedia! Erstaulich finde ich, dass der bisherige Server leergeräumt wurde, obwohl Luke ja bekannt sein musste, dass das Portieren auf Wikia noch nicht okay war und dass die Bilder hier noch nicht angekommen sind. Tjo. Leider 'ne zweischneidige Sache. Auf der einen Seite funktioniert die Bude wieder, auf der anderen Seite habe ich mit meiner Kritik den ehemaligen Chef vergrieselt. Nun ist die werbebeplankte Umleitung von der alten URL futsch, und er hockt auf den Bildern, oder hat sie tatsächlich gelöscht. Gleicht man beides gegenander aus, war es wohl eher eine Nullnummer, die ich da gestartet habe ;) --Nachteule 21:28, 8. Jun 2006 (UTC)

Dann wird er ja wohl klug genug gewesen sein, die Bilder wenigstens auf seinen PrivatPC zu sichern. Dann kann er diese von dort auf den wikia-server laden.
